The Wauwinet is home to one of the nation's most acclaimed restaurants, TOPPER'S, a favorite foodie destination set alongside the waters of Nantucket Bay. TOPPER'S, Nantucket's only AAA Five-Diamond Rated restaurant, offers a la carte and prix fixe menus showcasing seasonally inspired cuisine with an emphasis on local produce and seafood.
The Wine Director will be responsible for the management of all aspects of TOPPER’S Wine & Beverage program. This person will demonstrate an extensive knowledge of wine, operational expertise in curating and promoting a best-in-class wine program, oversight of the TOPPER’S beverage program education and mentorship of wine and beverage personnel. This hands-on role requires floor presence, active selling in a fine dining atmosphere and the ability to prepare and execute large catered events exclusively or in tandem with general dining operations. The Wine Director will collaborate with all front-of-house and back-of house teams, as well as, Rooms, Sales, Executive Office and vendors.
*This position is a year-round position for benefits purposes working 10 months of the year March – December.
The right candidate must have a minimum of 3-5 years of experience with managing a wine program in a fine dining environment, with demonstrated knowledge of Restaurant and Hospitality operations. Must possess Sommelier accreditation and deep knowledge of wine. Experience with managing inventories, ordering, forecasting and budgeting.
The Wine Director is also expected to assist F&B operations at TOPPER’S during regular hours, special events and Holidays. May also assist with events and operational duties at other White Elephant Resorts locations.
Must have:
- Excellent knowledge of wine & beverage programs and trends
- Strength in pairing wine with menus and guest preferences
- Detailed knowledge of state and local beverage laws; beverage and food certifications
- Strong verbal and communication skills
- Great attention to detail
- Outgoing, enthusiastic personality
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
Applicants should also work well under pressure, possess excellent communication skills, be extremely organized, flexible, self-motivated, and have a great sense of humor. Experience with computers and Microsoft Office essential.
